Oral Cancer

11 December 2012

Half the population may be ignoring mouth cancer symptoms!

Research conducted by the British Dental Health Foundation found that half the population would leave a non-healing mouth ulcer longer than recommended before seeking medical advice.

These results are in stark contrast to lumps and bumps found elsewhere on the body, where 70% of people would seek medical advice within 4 weeks.

Early detection and diagnosis of oral cancer is crucial for best possible treatment outcomes. Most mouth ulcers are self limiting and heal withing 10-14 days, however mouth ulcers or other oral lesions present for greater than 3 weeks should be examined by your dentist.
