Medications Are a Major Cause of Dry Mouth

If you experience symptoms of dry mouth, it may be associated with certain types of medications. 

Antidepressants, antihistamines, anti-inflammatories, and anti-hypertensive medications are just some of the many types of drugs that can contribute to a dry mouth. In addition, chronic illnesses such as diabetes, kidney disease, auto-immune conditions, cancer/chemotherapy or radiation therapy can also contribute to dry mouth symptoms.

You may not be able to change your medications, but it is important to keep your dentist/hygienist informed of medications and your general health.

Saliva is very important to maintaining good oral health, without it, the risk of decay increases, we can provide you with advice and products to help manage your dry mouth symptoms.
